So, we have decided to produce a series of videos that will be made available to SuperCamp graduates throughout the school year. These videos, featuring our very own SuperCamp staff, are designed to reinforce the learning that takes place at camp and to remind grads of ways to integrate their SuperCamp training into their day-to-day lives. Look for the first of these videos in late August. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Teen Success in Challenging Times Yesterday, you should have received an email regarding a free teleseminar that you are invited to listen to this coming Tuesday evening at 9:00 p.m. eastern daylight time (6:00 p.m. pacific). The topic is Teen Success in Challenging Times. It will be a conversation with SuperCamp president, Bobbi DePorter, Quantum Learning COO and former principal, Mark Reardon, and former teacher and current SuperCamp facilitator, Amy Smith. No one is immune from the negative news going on in the world today. This 45-minute teleseminar will give parents of teens (and pre-teens) practical advice on things they can do to help their kids weather these challenging times and focus on moving forward with their lives. Click here to get call-in details for this free Tuesday teleseminar. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• An example of flexibility we often share at SuperCamp is the story of the chicken and the dog. Food was placed just beyond a fence. The chicken attempted to get the food by knocking its beak against the fence repeatedly until it was bloody. The dog also attempted to get the food, but when he realized that the fence was stopping him, he changed his strategy and went around the fence for the food. We tell campers that in our everyday situations we need to look at our actions to see whether we are being rigid or flexible. If a set of actions repeatedly fails to help us reach our goal, then it’s time to change our strategy. It’s not always so easy to recognize or admit when something isn’t working. The first step to using the Flexibility Key is to admit when something isn’t working. Detach your ego from your actions and take an objective look at what you’re doing. See your failure as a learning experience, use that valuable information to make adjustments and move on. By exploring many possible solutions, you will discover avenues for success that you never would have previously considered. Life is fluid and changing, and options change, too. Seek out alternative routes and take charge of your situation. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• SuperCamp College Profile – University of Washington Today, the UW has a headcount of over 47,000 students and is comprised of over 500 buildings, and over 20 million gross square footage of space.
